I've recently purchased the above guitar from my local retailer here in Australia, and i'm very happy with the guitar. plays very nicely, sounds great and it seems to be well built.
This was until it was given a good workout by a very experinced player and friend of mine over the weekend. as a result, there are large scratches actually penetrating through the gloss finish and it has scratched off some of the decorative inlay around the top of the sound hole. (no pick-guard up there).
By no means was the guitar being played excessively hard and he was using my medium-soft picks (Dunlop Greens), i've seen his own acoustics played much harder for a number of years and he prefers to use much stiffer picks for his own purposes. and the only wear they exhibit is light surface scratches, which generally polish out to being almost invisible anyway.
this is not something i would have expected from a 2 month old, $800 (AUD) Guitar. Possibly from a cheap guitar, but even my fathers' 30 year old, Ply-top Nylon Classical does not show an of these signs.
The dealer was less than helpful, although the original salesman was not in that day, and he was a much more customer-service focussed person, aswell as being a real enthusiast.
I have since contacted the Australian Distributor (www.nationalmusic.com.au) and have had them reply and request some photo's of the damage.
Has anyone else had any such issues with new Tanglewood (or other brand) guitars, and if so what was the outcome. I'd even be happy to pay for it to be repaired and re-coated, then i'll install a clear cover over the entire face of the body, but the guys in the dealer did not even suggest such a thing.
Hopefully my guitar can be restored to as new condition and last that way for many years of playing to come. I'm now hesitant to play it at all until it's resolved for fear of further damage | Wed, 16 Jun 2010 02:29:41 | | Ryan Hurtt | RE: TW28 CE XFM. Soft Gloss Finish
Hello! I recently purchased a TW28 CSN. It is basically the same except for the price and the woods used. But mine is natural gloss as well. When I purchased my guitar I did a little reading up on it first and seems that natural gloss finished guitars wear on the top faster than most other guitars. So, I'm pretty sure its normal. now if its key scratches, then you might want to reconsider your friendship with the guitarist who played it. ;) Okay, I'm only kidding but without trying to sound redundant, I'm sure the wear is normal. Don't be afraid to get battle scars on your guitar. If you are, buy another one to play out so you can put the one you have in a closet or safe. Hope I helped in some way. Have a good one! | Mon, 02 Aug 2010 15:46:19 |
