Aged just 15, Hertfordshire based singer/songwriter Emma McGrath, has become a name to watch following her recent success winning the inaugural PRS for Music Foundation and PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund Lynsey de Paul Prize for emerging female singer songwriters.

With a strong foundation of live gigs already behind her, including the prestigious 100 Club on London’s Oxford Street, Emma has developed her own style of live performance and is truly at home on the stage. With a powerful voice coupled with strikingly original lyrics and acoustic music, she leaves audiences “completely captivated by her performance”.
Singing as soon as she could talk, Emma picked up the guitar properly for the first time at the age of 10 and played her first open mic at 13. Her first EP, recorded just 18 months later at The Grand Chapel Studios in Bedfordshire, was the catalyst that inspired her to explore the technology side of music production. Emma is now greatly involved in any production work with her songs and has used her skills in production to create her YouTube following with unique covers of popular songs. What was Emma’s bedroom is now a recording space (she sleeps in the spare room), home to her ever growing collection of instruments, with her drum kit taking the place of her bed and guitars hung on the walls!

Since uploading her tracks to BBC Introducing, Emma has been played and interviewed by:
 BBC Introducing Beds, Herts and Bucks
 Local radio stations including: Radio Dacorum, Radio Verulam and Vibe 107.6FM.

And she was also featured on
 Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 Show segment ‘Some Mothers Do Indie’ in January 2015.

Still in full-time education and working hard to juggle music and school, music also features in Emma’s school work – writing songs instead of poetry for RE homework and making a fretless bass guitar for her GCSE Tech project. Currently studying for her GCSEs as well as her Grade 8 guitar exam, Emma is working hard on her new EP. And with the upcoming release of her single ‘Sit With Me’ on the horizon, Emma is very excited to see what she can achieve.

Emma said about winning the Lynsey de Paul Prize:
“I feel very grateful to have won such a fantastic prize and excited to know that the money will enable me to continue working on my next EP! Recording has already begun and it’s good to know that I will have the funds to finish it and promote it properly. I am particularly keen to access the mentorship and look forward to meeting new people and learning lots of new things.”
